Our September meeting will feature a presention entitled Mexico, Off the Beaten Path, by Julia Etter & Martin Kristen. Originally from Switzerland, they have settled in a small town east of Guadalajara and devoted themselves to studying and photographing the plants of Mexico, concentrating on the Agavaceae and the Crassulaceae (see their websites, www.agavaceae.com and www.crassulaceae.com). They have a Unimog expedition vehicle named "Poco Loco," which means "a little bit crazy," and they have driven all around the southwestern US and Mexico searching out plant habitats.
Their outstanding photos have appeared in various books and articles on succulent plants. Their presentation for our meeting will have an emphasis on Echeveria, with lots of pictures of plants in habitat. Our show and tell table will feature Echeveria and its close relatives Pachyphytum and Graptopetalum, as well as hybrids with these. On the cactus side, we will feature Rebutia. Of course, any other plants looking especially good are welcome.
The featured grower for September will be Marilyn Pekasky. Marilyn has long been a volunteer doing propagation of succulents at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, and many of the plants she will bring are propagations from the collection at the garden.
