Phytotourism in Yemen with speakers Bob Webb and Toni Yocum

The January meeting will feature a presentation on Yemen by Bob Webb and Toni Yocum. This program was originally scheduled September 2008, but rescheduled for our January 2009 presentation. Bob Webb is a research hydrologist with the US Geological Survey, and has been conducting research on landscape change in arid and semiarid regions for the last 30 years. He and his wife Toni Yocum are the owners of Arid Lands Greenhouses in Tucson, Arizona. They have made two trips to Yemen, and have photographed various succulents there, including Euphorbias, Aloes, Commiphoras, and Sansevierias. We will also be treated to glimpses of the spectacular landscapes there, and the unique local architecture. This is a corner of the world that few of us have had the chance to visit, and it is the part of the Arabian Peninsula which is the richest in succulent plants.

Featured growers Both SFSCS member, Jamison Crosby, and Marilyn Mangle for SFSCS will provide selections of plants for purchase.
