Our speaker will be Stephen McCabe, Director of Education and Curator of Succulents at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, who will be discussing the Dudleya he has found on his adventures in California and Baja California. The presentation will show dudleyas in habitat mostly from four main locations, the Santa Monica Mountains, Channel Islands, Guadalulpe Island and northern Baja California. There will be some shots of pretty garden hybrids. This presentation will be a little more directed towards those interested in the cultivation of dudleyas, than a recent presentation on classification in Dudleya that was presented at the Huntington Botanic Garden. Stephen has been at the Arboretum since 1985 and has worked on dudleyas since 1983 when he was at San Francisco State. He has just written a revised key with descriptions for the Dudleya of California. The key will appear in the second edition of The Jepson Manual.
The featured growers will be Carl Frederick & Stephen McCabe.
Our featured growers will be Stephen McCabe and Carl Frederick, and the plant of the month will be Dudleya and columnar cactus. As always members can bring in plants which are flowering or looking good to share in the meeting. |
